Gram-MEs!!

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Get it? Cause I’ll be at the Grammys? Gram-MEs? Oh, and some legitimately famous people will be there too. Obviously.

But just in case you needed a reminder [I bet you didn't because hello I can't quit talking about it], watch the Grammys tonight and let’s keep our fingers crossed that Lady A wins both Grammys that they are up for!

And let’s keep our fingers crossed that I don’t:

  1. fall down
  2. tear my dress
  3. tear someone else’s dress [it could happen. don't put it past me.]
  4. trip in the high heels
  5. frown on camera [if they don't win]
  6. scream like a maniac [if they do win]
  7. pass out [wouldn't that be horrible??]

I can’t wait to recap the whole experience for you. But for today, just keep up with me on twitter. Cause when there is a Justin Timberlake sighting, I’m gonna tweet that junk for realz.

3 minutes.

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

I’m being picked up in 3 minutes to go to the airport.

And I’m leaving my computer at home. I just plain ran out of space.

But I managed to fit 8 pairs of shoes for 5 days. So. Deal with that math.

I can’t believe it’s really here.

I’m also currently on the phone with Comcast getting our cable transferred, so you can imagine how productive blogging is going right now.

Ok, now my friend Graham [who we call Grammy, isn't that interesting] is here to pick me up. She went to the Grammys last year with Hillary, so she’s giving me the lowdown. Including how to deal with someone helping you get dressed.

Oh. Sheesh.

Since I don’t have my computer, the best way to keep up with me is via twitter. If there is one thing I love, it’s twitpics. So get ready. :)

Clicks that will cost you.

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

But are totes worth it.

First of all, sorry my blog was broken this morning. It happens. :)

Here are some clicks for today that, while they aren’t free, are all awesome.

First of all, my friend Lady Antebellum released their sophomore album today and it. is. great. So click on this iTunes button and it will send you straight to the new album Need You Now. You won’t regret it.

Lady Antebellum - Need You Now

Also, our friend Dave Barnes has released the first single from his new album. The single is “God Gave Me You” and good gracious, people. That’s a good way to spend 99 cents. [I gave Dave a dollar one time. But it's because I lost a bet. It involved a lot of skewers of chicken. And he won. Cause he loves chicken on a skewer more than you would believe.]

Anyways, click on this iTunes button and you can spend a dollar on Dave. For a much better gift than watching him eat 20+ skewers of chicken. Trust. Me.
Dave Barnes - God Gave Me You - Single

Finally, tonight is going to be so.much.fun. I’ll be there. Dave will be there. Brandon Heath will be there. Matt Wertz will be there. And YOU can be there too! For only $1.50! And you can be in your pajamas. [But we won't.]

It’s a live concert, streaming online, with songs, interviews, and me running the live twitter stream! And the money goes to building wells in Africa. So tonight at 8pm CST, log on to the Mocha Club website and watch the concert.

Go ahead and register NOW then remind yourself to come tonight! I’ll see you there!!

I know there are some more albums coming out today– any recommendations from you??

Career(s)

Monday, January 25th, 2010

I have a new post up today at SheSeeks about changing careers.

You know, something I may do again. Who knows.

Also, if you leave a comment, you could win THIS AWESOME BOOK from my friend Shannon.

So check check check check check it out. [Say that out loud to yourself like you are a rapper. Cause maybe that will be my next career, and I'll need a posse.]

And. There’s a video there that I made last week. I’m gonna let you find that on your own. [Cause maybe I'll be a treasure hunter next, and again. I'll need a posse.]

I’m Always Me: Book Nerd Edition.

Monday, January 25th, 2010

I spent my Sunday afternoon sitting on the couch reading a book.

Well. Officially. Reading a book on my Kindle.

[I know. Santa showed up in Nashville and left this for me. And I freaked. Cause hello. It's a Kindle and I love to read and hello I love technology.]

[No Kip joke needed.]

I’m reading a book for our book club called The Help. If you haven’t read it, you. must. It’s wonderful. [My mom and my friend Carrie told me to read it- I didn't listen. I should just listen.]

And while reading the day away, I remembered what it was like to be me. In 1987. And in 1993. And in 2001. And every year in between.

Because I. Love. To. Read.

It’s been a long time since I found a book that was this irresistible [also see: most books by Mary DeMuth, Starring Sally J. Freedman as Herself, Christy, and Harriet the Spy]. But here are the signs that I have found such a book:

  1. I insist on reading while drying my hair which slows the process down significantly. And could add a full HOUR to my morning. It’s a sickness.
  2. I stay up WAY.LATE. reading every night and I usually wake up with my book (or Kindle) still tucked under my arm.
  3. I set timers/alarms. “Ok, Annie. At 4:20 you HAVE to get up and fold your laundry.” 4:20 comes, I keep reading.
  4. I take the book everywhere with me and read when I should be making friends. [Which is awesome with the Kindle because it syncs to my iPhone. Can you even BELIEVE that? They. Sync. The Jetsons have nothing on us.]
  5. When I was little, I used to read in the tub. And I would read for so long that I used up all the hot water in the house. Parents = not too pleased.

I grew up in a house where we didn’t watch TV. Reading was my main form of entertainment. And playing outside. And so I read. A lot.

And sometimes I forget that the girl that used to use up all the hot water and drop her book in the tub, the girl who carried a book in the car everywhere she went, the girl who devoured books until deep into the night…..

that girl is still here.

She sometimes gets covered up with emails, dinners out with friends, television shows, or being an adult in general, but I enjoyed being Book Nerd Annie again Sunday. And probably today. And on my flight to LA on Wednesday.

Cause I just remembered how much I like Book Nerd Annie.

For your viewing pleasure.

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

Well, for about 10 hours, the inside of my blog was broken. I don’t know how to explain that any better except to say that WOW THAT WAS FRIGHTENING [cause I thought, for a while, that the ole snoozle blog might be the last thing you hear from AnnieBlogs, and what a dumb way to go out].

But yay for my blog-boss Lauren for fixing it!

So all’s well now. Moving right along…..

Believe it or not [I think that saying is dumb], I have not one, not two, but THREE videos for you today.

I know. It’s like Hanukkah -5.

First of all, I have a video blog up at SheSeeks today. About ice cream. Sorta. Check it out, yo.

Secondly, Mocha Club is doing this cool thing next week where Dave Barnes, Matt Wertz, and Brandon Heath are going to do a live online concert. They will be singing some of their songs, interviewing each other [prepare. to. laugh.], and talking about clean water in Africa. HERE are all the details. And here is the promo video.

Funniest part to me: at 0:21 when Matt can’t figure out what to do with his hands. That’s humorous.

So, I’d love you for you to join us next Tuesday. I’ll be there guarding the twitter stream and picking out the questions for the boyz to answer. I’m tellin’ y’all. It’s gonna be a good time.

The final video is a Grammy update. Here’s the first dress fitting, post alterations, with Pattie the seamstress, Amber the stylist, and Lauren the… uh… funny one.

Music for the videos was provided by Seth Philpott, Dave Barnes, and Adam Agin (in that order).

Really. Don’t panic about the black dress. It’ll fit perfect in a week. Ladies, you know how this works.

Sorry that all my videos are the same, a pattern if you will. Music. Black screen. Words. Pictures. It’s boring, but it’s all I know. :)

Happy Thursday.

The technology of a snoozle.

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

First of all, I love that y’all love the Grammy thing. Crazy, right? More to come. Don’t you worry about that.

Now. Let’s talk about what important.

Sleeping.

Some friends showed me a new app for the iPhone this weekend. It’s called Sleep Cycle. And y’all. It. Is. Cool.

You set it. Lay it down on the bed beside you. And then it will chart your sleep cycle through the night and somehow, magically [or scientifically, but I'm a big fan of magic] it knows when to wake you up so that you are in the lightest part of your sleep cycle.

Genius, no?

Now, my homeopathic doctor would probably not love that I’m sleeping with my phone on the bed. But magic [science] requires some sacrifices.

I’ve had the app for three nights and because there is nothing that I withhold from you, here are my sleeping charts. And I’m going to need you to not judge the hours I’m sleeping. I’m a freelancer, remember? I work until late at night. It’s very creative and artsy… and stupid.

Saturday night

1:15am-7:54am

Sunday night

2:03am-8:06am

[I know. That was way too late. I felt it. Again, don't judge.]

Monday night

12:32am-6:33am

Tell me that is not fascinating. Here’s what I noticed on all three- I fall asleep super fast. See how quick it drops off? And see how on Saturday night I fell asleep and then woke up about 20 minutes later? Yeah. People shouldn’t send text messages at 2am. Rude.

And the music it plays when it is waking you up is so sweet and polite. Very anti-alarm, which I appreciate. The only downside I’ve seen so far is that there is no snooze button- so as I usually set my alarm about 40 minutes before I want to get up, I have to instead set if for when I really want to wake up.

Now I truly have no idea if this is true or real or scientific [magical], but it’s fun. My friends who showed me the app are married and they don’t feel like it works real well when you share a bed. So, take that into consideration. [And you better believe I added that to my "reasons it's cool to be single in 2010." It's a short list that I am willing to throw away at any point.]

Anybody else have Sleep Cycle? Or is there another cool iPhone app that I’m missing out on?

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Is going to be a seriously exciting Sunday night.

Cause I’m GOING. TO. THE. GRAMMYS.

Yep. THESE GRAMMYS.

Are. you. dying?!? Cause I. am. dying. [in a good way]

Let me back up and explain.

One of my dearest friends in Nashville in Hillary. Hillary is in a country group called Lady Antebellum. We had a mutual friend in Atlanta, so we met soon after I moved here.

Within a few weeks, Hillary, myself, and 2 other girls (Ansley and Graham) were meeting together weekly and talking about the ugly. You know what I mean- like, “dear girls, I’m gonna tell you all my ugly and you’re gonna pray about it and tell me all your ugly.” We read the Bible and pray and get in each other’s junk. They know the worst of me and still choose me. We’ve had great times and really hard times when we all wanted to quit. But we didn’t. Cause that’s how you love people.

We’re really cute. Anyways.

Hillary called me last week and asked me to be her date to the Grammys. And after I regained consciousness, I accepted.

So that means I fly to LA at the end of the month, get to attend a few different amazing events over the week, then go to the Grammys. With Justin Timberlake. Beyonce. Black Eyed Peas. AND MAYBE REBA.

Lady Antebellum is nominated for 2 Grammys and will be performing.

What does that mean?

That means that when the cameras pan to show you Lady A, I WILL BE THERE.

In a gold dress. It’s gorg. Totes gorg. [That's for the Nash-folks who read this blog. We abbreviate too much.]

Are you freaking out or what? Cause I’ve been freaking out for 2 weeks.

Of course, I immediately called Amber [she's the best stylist in town- and lucky for me, she's also my friend] and said, “WE HAVE A FASHION EMERGENCY CALLED THE GRAMMYS!

I can’t wait to show y’all the dresses. Plural. [Are you freaking out now?]

So. There’s the big announcement. I just couldn’t wait anymore. I have too many things I want to tell you between now and then. And videos. I will be making videos.

Cause your friend AnnieBlogs is GOING TO THE GRAMMYS.

Good. Gracious.

Things I’m ashamed of:

Thursday, January 14th, 2010
  • That time I called the YMCA to cancel my gym membership and a guy I know answered the phone.

Sorry, David. I won’t be working out at your facilities this year. Nothing personal. How’s your mom?

  • That time I sold a bunch of books so I could have extra cash to eat out with my friends. Yeah, knew the guy there too.

Oh, hey Peter. Yes, that is two identical copies of Purpose Driven Life.

  • This time.

Toms + Santa socks = January 13th, you’ve never looked so good.”

  • The time that I still had a crush on Mark from the FIRST season of Road Rules.

Yeah, Mark. I know you’re 49 and still on MTV. But there’s something really right about this.”

  • The time I cried while watching You’ve Got Mail. Yesterday.

‘152 insights into my SOUL!’ Sigh… I’ve been single a long time.”

  • The time I wore the same outfit two days in a row thinking there were no repeating viewers.

Sorry about it, Marisa. And no, I won’t wear it again tomorrow… unless I for SURE won’t see you. Uhhh… will I see you tomorrow?

  • The time I ate frozen yogurt during a snowstorm.

Wait. So you haven’t been so busy at the store today? Weird. And yeah, put another scoop of Oreos on there.

  • The time I was glued to the television during The Bachelor because the scandal was just. so. shocking.

Uh, Roslyn. A staffer? Gross.”

  • The time I kept a REALLY delicious secret from you…. until tomorrow.

Hey, bloggite. I’m playing games with your mind. But you’re gonna love it. See you on Friday.”

Grace. Etc.

Friday, January 8th, 2010

First of all, you people love you some instructional videos. I feel like linen closets near and far are being transformed. Brings a tear to my organizational eye to hear so many of you making strides in folding areas of your life. I salute you, new members of the fold. [Literally.]

I’m so stinkin’ glad y’all liked the video. Cause you have NO.IDEA. how fun I think it is to make those. So. I have some ideas cooking…. I’ll be in touch. We can’t let that flipcam go to waste, now can we?

Now cam we?

[I have a pun guru named Dave. I hope this post, twice punny so far, is making him proud.]

This is my favorite day of the month. The day that I get to post over at (in)courage! This month is about grace and in order to complete the writing assignment, I had to use google. I know. I’m an idiot. CLICK here to read the post. [It's short. Cause I value your time.] And I discuss milkshakes. Seriously. Need I say more?

And just while I’ve been writing this post, I got a comment over at (in)courage from a sweet bloggy friend in Australia. AUSTRALIA, y’all. This world gets tinier every.internet.day. Me likey.

Hope y’all have a great weekend.

[I'd like to make one more play on words, but I don't want it to get overly pun-gent in here.]

ZING!

[My work here is done.]
