Today is a REALLY good Tuesday.

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

For two reasons:

#1- My friend Sandra Byrd has a book releasing today- Bon Appetit.  I’ve had the pleasure of reading it and it is FANTASTIC.  The first novel in the series, Let Them Eat Cake, is one of my favorites.  A friend of mine is reading it and she immediately commented on how real the characters are and how it is the best Christian fiction she has read because it isn’t pushy.  That’s called a breath of fresh air in this genre!!  So grab both books today.  Because there is a third.  And trust me, you WANT to be ready for it.  Oh Sandra.  Keep ‘em coming, sister.  Because you are good at what you do.

#2- Our buddy Matt Wertz‘s new album Under Summer Sun drops today.  [That's industry talk for "releases"- it happens when you move here.]  We’ve been over this before, but this man can write some good music.  He uses words wisely, which is an antonym of “Annie”.  If you haven’t heard him yet, go listen to a few songs on his myspace THEN buy the album.  You will want to.

[And because I know you care, my very favorite Wertz song EVA is "Capitol City".  Read the lyrics and you may cry.  Or at least you will if you are moving to a new city and have no friends.  Ahem.]

I feel pretty strongly about our blogmunity [that's a blog community, by the way] supporting these two artists.  I have nothing to give away, no freebies here.  I just have to say that when two different people each love God well and express that love and gratitude through their art, I’ll pay for it.  And I’ll tell my friends to pay for it.  And it is GOOD art.  GOOD books.  GOOD music.  If it was bad, I’d magically forget to post today and apologize to Matt and Sandra on Wednesday.  So trust me.  It’s worth it.  I haven’t led you astray yet… uhh….. I don’t think I have, at least.

I’m praying for both of these artists today.  For Sandra.  For Matt.  For the people that work with them.  That they would encounter God today as they release to the world a portion of their praise.

Fitting for my Monday.

Gracious, Dawgs.

Saturday, September 13th, 2008

It was a close one.  Too close.  I think I lost 5 pounds of sweat and stress and gained 6 pounds because there were really good red velvet cupcakes.

I’m proud of the dawgs.  Ish.

We pulled out a win, but I’m still not sure how.

If this would have been LSU, bless our hearts.  South Carolina got beat by VANDERBILT two weeks ago, yet they still give us fits year after year.  Ridiculous.

Next week we play at Arizona State.  I don’t even have the first idea how to start worrying about that game.  I don’t have any worry space left for the desert schools- cause then we see Alabama, Tennessee, and Vandy and those three games will take all the worry I can muster up.

I can’t think about this anymore.  It’s still great to be a Georgia Bulldog, but I may have a heart murmur before this season is over.  This whole preseason #1 is a blessing and a curse.  That is for sure.

Happy weekend.

This would be my favorite SNL character, Kaitlin.  The interesting thing is that I am also a very dynamic lead singer. So we have a lot in common.

Smile, Wednesday. Ahem. Thursday.

So here are some visual highlights of the event yesterday.

Betsy.  She runs my giveaways.  Here she is working on my blog or something equally important.  She looks very small in this picture.  Trust me- it’s a big chair.  She is small, but not abnormally tiny.  Or abnormally sly, though her face would say otherwise.

All ready to go, after dinner and many quotes from Bon Qui Qui.  (Sissy, Marisa, myself, and Meredith)  I’m what you might called fair skinned.

Thanks to Caroline, I was so prepared in the clutch department.

The shoes.  Here’s the story.  I bought the shirt thinking it was black.  About 4pm yesterday, I realize it is brown.  I have ZERO appropriate foot holders.  So I run to Off Broadway Shoes [thank the Lord I actually knew where one was] and purchased these beauts.

But all good things must come to an end. Including the wearing of brand new high heels while still at said party.  The pain factor was about an 8 and my tolerance level is about a 4.25.  So I took them off for about 30 minutes and carried them with me.  This being the result.

Um.  Eww.  Please know that I took this photo then IMMEDIATELY took a shower to clean them off.  I scrubbed those puppies raw. This takes the term “grocery store feet” to a whole new level.  That I hope I never experience again.

In preparation for this party, I had quit eating desserts for a while.  So I sat down to check email after the party last night and indulged on my very favorite candy bar in the world.  And by world, I mean WORLD.  These are Twisted candy bars from Scotland.  They are like cadbury eggs in bar form.  Thank you, whoever invented these.  You are dear to me.

The party was super fun.  Having the girls over to the house ahead of time was really great- its nice to laugh with people that you don’t have to introduce yourself to first.  That’s been a rarity here thus far.  I loved Nashville last night.

I also put the groups pics on facebook and I think this text message says it best-

Congrats indeed.

And now back to our regularly scheduled bloggyness…

A blog post in which I use a list and do not trash talk.

1.  My friend Hillary is in a country group called Lady Antebellum.  I teared up this morning when they got  nominated not once, but TWICE for CMA Awards- New Artist of the Year and Vocal Group of the Year.  [You can watch Lady A announce the nominations, themselves included.  It is the sweetest thing.]  To say I will be on the edge of my sofa on November 12th is the understatement of this century.

2.  Tonight is this event.  Yes, I finally purchased an outfit that I semi-enjoy, though that $200 dress still calls me late at night and talks about what might have been.  Apparently the event is sold out which does nothing but cause me to fear the sweat situation.  Lots of trendy people dancing in a small space = I’m going to be sweaty.

3.  My friend Marisa gave me this verse the first week I moved to Nashville and it has been on my mind a lot lately.

Jeremiah 29:7

“Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you… Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”

4.  Speaking of scripture, did you notice we moved on to vs. 4-5 of Psalm 145?  Hope you are memorizing along with me.  Cause that junk is GOOD and I LIKE having it in my head.

5.  “Smile, Wednesday” will be presented on Thursday.  I think.

6.  This week is Next Big Nashville, which should be some music-hearin’ good times.  Do you recognize any bands that you think I should not miss under any circumstances?  I’m for sure seeing Brooke Waggoner, Thad Cockrell, and Ten out of Tenn on Saturday night.  So don’t you worry ’bout that.

7.  Seriously.  I just heard something drop on the other side of my bedroom and I thought “mouse!”.  But it just appears that a paperclip was teetering to close to the edge of the desk and fell into the trashcan.  I’m a wee bit jumpy.  Sue me.

8.  Sophie is preaching a good word today.  Amen, sister.  Amen.

Phew… it got a little linky in here.  Sorry about that.

Smile, Wednesday.  We gotta big night ahead of us.

That’s right he did.

Just another reason why it’s great to be a Georgia Bulldog.

Dear Vince Agnew,

I’m sorry that you will go down in history as the dude that Moreno vaulted over.  But congrats on being in every highlight video for the rest of UGA history.

Sincerely, Annie

Dear South Carolina,

There’s more where that came from.  See you Saturday.

Sincerely, Annie

Win on, winners.

I’m excited to announce that we have 2 winners!  [Let's be honest, all you bloggites are winners, but I only have 2 CDs to giveaway.  So 2 "official" winners.]

Congrats to Katy at B’ahava and Kelli!!  [One commenter whom I adore as a person left 2 comments (which is fine), so my friend Betsy only counted her once- Betsy is my official giveaway judge, so she makes those kinds of calls.]

Random Integer Generator

Here are your random numbers:

13	7

I’ll be in touch soon, girls, so I can mail your CDs to you.

For all you other almost-winners [that's a nice phrase, isn't it?], you get the pleasure of buying your own copy.  Congrats!

To Barb-a-licious, Betsy says you picked the wrong person to kiss up to.  Random Number Generator is powerful, but Betsy makes the final call.  Good info to have for next time.

Who woke YOU up this morning?

Monday, September 8th, 2008

I thought I heard my roommate ripping up paper.

At 5:30am.

You know that feeling of waking up and knowing something weird is going on? Yeah, I had it.  My heart?  It was beating like a drum kit.  Because something was NOT RIGHT.

So I heard this paper ripping sound, over and over again.  I finally sat up.  The sound stopped.

That’s when all the panic thoughts started.  Is there a person in our house?  Is someone hiding in the hallway outside my door?  What is my roommate (let’s call her “Jamie”) doing that is making this sound?  My mind was going 100 miles an hour.  And then the ripping sound happened again.

Yep.  Definitely in my room.

That’s when the panic escalated.

I reached over and turned my lamp on, and as I did, the sound began to happen repeatedly- rip rip rip rip.  I was looking around the room but not seeing a thing.  I stood up, and saw it.

A small brown blob jumping around in the GAP bag at the end of my bed.

A mouse.  A MOUSE.  Trapped in the GAP bag.  Trying to JUMP HIS WAY OUT.

I threw my bedroom door open and ran full tilt out of my room [because I am very brave] to Jamie’s room because I thought this fit in the “wake me up any hour even though we’ve only lived together for a month” category.  And Jamie?  She’s gone to the gym.

Why, pray tell, does anyone go to the gym by 5:30am, especially when there is OBVIOUSLY an emergency at home?  Gracious.  I call her cell phone and leave a message with these exact sentiments.  More colorfully stated.

And then I grab my camera because nothing alleviates fear like thinking, “This is so bloggable” and behaving as such.  I pull the few pieces of clothing out the bag so I can get this shot.

I’m borderline freaking out this whole time, mind you, so each piece gets quite the shake before I bring it out of the GAP bag.  Because can you imagine the depth of the heart failure I would have experienced had I pulled the mouse out of the bag?

For you animal lovers, I will have you know that I grabbed the top of the bag and rolled it down like a sack lunch, while the mouse was doing triple sow cows in there, and just tossed him outside.  So he lives.  He’s lucky.

Here’s how I’m lucky:

1) I’m really glad I went to the GAP this week and got a new pair of jeans.  And I’m also glad that I left the GAP bag in the middle of the floor.

2) I don’t know how the mouse got in the bag.  I’m just really glad he didn’t fall off something and land in my mouth.

3) I’m glad it was a mouse and not something slithery or human.

4) I’m glad I love the book The Tale of Despereaux, because I just kept telling myself it was sweet little Despereaux trapped in my room.

After the incident, I sat down at my computer, put on the soothing melodies of The Gabe Dixon Band and tried to calm my heart rate.

Because nothing says relaxing morning like Gabe Dixon with a side of small rodent.

**Don’t forget the giveaway below!  Comments open until Tuesday at 5pm!!**

Ayiesha Woods Giveaway!

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

Y’all.  How cute is Ayiesha?  I know.  You adore her already. And you haven’t even heard her voice!  Good gracious it is unbelievable.

Her second album, Love Like This, comes out on Tuesday and it is oh so wonderful.  She is not only the artist but she is also wrote many of the songs.  And y’all know I love me some solid song writing.  Her song, Because of You, made my happy cry a little bit over and over.  It is so beautiful and a sweet reminder of how God loves.  Oh, and I love the song Alive.  Y’all.  And she recorded Jennifer Knapp’s Refine Me which is a personal favorite of mine.  She did RIGHT by the song, I’ll tell you.

And because Ayiesha is a giver, she’s letting you hear the songs from her new CD right here right now.  Look below and you will see the player.  You will also be able to pre-order the CD if you just can’t wait until Tuesday. Which I will not judge you for. I can understand it is hard to resist after hearing.

Or…. you could win one right here!!  I have 2 CDs to giveaway!!  So all you have to do is leave a comment telling me which song you like the most and I will use the random number generator to pick 2 winners.  I’ll close the comments at 5pm on Tuesday and announce the winners.  That way, you can go ahead and buy the CD as soon as it comes out if you don’t win it. (You can get the album on iTunes and at Target! GoodBuy, right?)

Of course, I hope you win.  Seriously.  I want you to win.  So does Ayiesha.  She loves winners.
